Santa Marta to El Mamey: 3 hours in a vehicle
El Mamey to Camp 1: 4 hours on foot (7.6 km)

Santa Marta - El Mamey 

The expedition begins with a transfer from your accommodation (usually between 7.00 and 8.00 am, depending on the location of your accommodation).

From there, we set off in a 4×4 off-road vehicle towards the village of El Mamey, a journey of around 3 hours. In El Mamey, we begin the trek to the first camp, covering 7.6 kilometres.

Halfway along the route, we stop at the Mirador de las Tres Cruces to enjoy juicy fruit and stunning views.

Camp 1

Along the way, you’ll be able to enjoy a refreshing dip in the natural pools of the Sierra Nevada.
We’ll arrive at Camp 1 — ‘Adán’ or ‘Alfredo’ —,
our base for the night.

Lost City and Exploration of the Archaeological Park

After a hearty breakfast at Camp 1, we set off for Camp 2, “Cabaña Wiwa”. There, you can enjoy a refreshing swim in the Buritaca River whilst lunch is being prepared.

After a short break, we resume our journey, heading deeper into the mountains. We will pass by the Kogui indigenous village of Mutanyi, set in a unique cultural environment, and continue on to Camp 3, “Paraíso Teyuna”.

Ancestral paths

The day begins with breakfast at Camp 3. We will walk 2 km and climb 1,200 stone steps to Ciudad Perdida, an archaeological treasure of the ancient Tayrona civilisation. Platforms, paved paths and ritual buildings make up this sacred site.

Surrounded by lush jungle, Ciudad Perdida offers captivating views, from sunlit clearings to mist-shrouded forests. During your exploration, you may encounter the mamo, the spiritual guardian and protector of this ancient heritage and Mother Earth.

Camp 2

At the end of the tour, we return to Camp 3 for lunch and then head down to Camp 2, ‘Cabaña Wiwa’, where we will spend our final night.

From the jungle to Santa Marta

Our odyssey through the Sierra Nevada comes to an end. After breakfast, we’ll hike for two hours to the “Adán” or “Alfredo” camp, where our adventure began. There, we’ll take a break to rehydrate with fruit and water.

We’ll then walk for about four hours to El Mamey for lunch and to raise a toast to the end of this epic experience. Finally, we’ll hop into the 4×4 jeep for the return journey to Santa Marta, bringing this unforgettable route to a close.

We will arrive at the airport in good time for our return flight: one hour early for domestic flights and two hours early for international flights.
